We've been saving and working on a budget for our Summer Vacation. I'm the type of person that is very goal orientated, so by deciding and planning our Summer Vacation, it will help me keep on track with our savings/budget and hopefully keep my weight loss goals on track. We will be able to save about $3,400, so hubby and I brainstormed and researched where we could go and stay within budget, yet still enjoy our selves and feel like we've had a great vacation. We decided on Osoyoos, BC. It's been hailed as the Arizona of Canada. There is a condo resort there that has some decent rates and it comes with a fully functional kitchen, which will help on keeping our food/eating out expenditures down. It's called Spirit Ridge Resort and there are supposed to be alot of wineries around it to go and visit.
We eventually want to retire in Osoyoos/Oliver region, so this will be a nice trial basis to see how we like it in the Summer. Even though retirement is many years away for us, it will at least give us an idea. My grandparents used to live in Oliver, and as a little girl my family would always visit them each Summer, so it will be nice to go now as an adult.
We usually spend much more on our vacations - it's the one area that we definitely splurge in, but we are planning on doing another big cruise in 2014, so we have already started saving for that trip, so the trips between now and 2014 will be scaled down for us.
According to Google Maps, Osoyoos is 13+ hours from our home. Should be fun.
My BF and I went to Osoyoos last year on vacation and had a great time! We stayed a few nights at a resort on the lake, and then a few more nights sleeping in a tent. If you're coming from Alberta, don't forget to stop at the Rock Creek Trading Post in Rock Creek - a tiny tiny town 50km east of Osoyoos. Great coffee & food there, and run by my BF's aunt and uncle. :)
ReplyDeleteatleast you are saving now!!! good job
ReplyDeleteThanks Krystalatwork - for recommendation, we will check it out!
ReplyDeletejpkittie - thanks for the comment, yeah, we try to put a set amount away for vacations each month and then when we have b'day money, etc it goes into the vacation fund.
Oooh sounds like fun. AND a cruise too, saving for vacations is so good. Where are you going on your cruise?
ReplyDeleteGirl Makes Cents - the cruise vacation is for 2014, leaving out of Boston and heading to the Carribean for 10-12 days and ending up in Florida. We did this exact same cruise in 2009 and then in April of 2010 we took each set of parents on a Pacific Coastal Cruise, which was also a lot of fun. It left from LA and ended up in Vancouver, BC
